Choosing the right sized rug can be a bit tricky, so we have created this Rug Size and Placement Guide to help you out.

A larger rug in a larger room will help define a specific area, such as a lounge area or dining area. It grounds the space and creates more cosiness.
Smaller rooms often benefit from smaller rugs to make the rooms feel larger.
We recommend leaving at least 10-20cm gap between the edge of the rug and the wall, so that there is a visible strip of flooring to help frame the space.
Furniture legs can either sit on or off the rug, there are not hard-set rules and ultimately comes down to personal preference

Handwoven rugs are meticulously made by hand, with foundations in which the horizontal weft yarn is interlaced onto vertical warp yarn. When the rug is almost complete on the loom, the warp yarn forms the fringe of the rug, which creates the foundational strength of the rug. You can tell if your rug is of high quality if it has an authentic fringe.

Hand-knotting refers to a process whereby the area rug is created knot by knot on a loom to create a pile. This creates a durable and long-lasting rug. Hand knotted rugs require a high level of hand craftmanship and are of premium quality.

Hand-loomed rugs are pile rugs hand made by up to 4 people working together on a traditional looming apparatus which assists in interlacing the warp and weft, to create tight and secure knots.

Hand-tufted rugs start as a design on a stretched-out canvas. The weaver uses the design on the canvas as a guide to skilfully ‘shoot’ in the yarn into loops with a tufting gun to create a pile. Once the pattern is finished, the rug is secured with high grade latex and another canvas backing to secure the tufts. This is an efficient way to make a rug and due to it being less labour/time intensive, creates affordable options for those looking for natural fibre rugs.

Machine-woven rugs are made by power-looms and are usually composed of synthetic materials such as Polypropylene and Polyester. They are quick to make, require very little hands-on labour, making them the most affordable rugs on the market. They are excellent for families with young children and pets are they are durable and stain resistant.
