Styling tips with Camilla Ingall from Unfolded

We sat down and spoke with Camilla Ingall from Unfolded about how to choose the perfect rug for your space. She shared her expert tips and tricks to help you find your perfect match. We hope you find the Q&As just as interesting and useful as we did!

What do you look for when searching for the perfect rug?

We source rugs to suit the clients tastes and needs, both aesthetically and functionally. We look for timelessness, durability and ensure that the cost is always reflected in the quality of each piece.

How do you determine the right size for a space?

We like to ensure it’s proportionally fit, first and foremost. We find when this one rule isn’t followed, rugs can either over take an area or be much too small. A rug can either be a centrepiece to a room, or frame a space, and both (when done well) create a sense of character and personality in the home.

Bold or neutral tones?

Neutral. This can change to suit the space or concept of each space and unique design, however we absolutely love working with several hues under the same colour umbrella. For example, the colour navy displays deep blue, grey, ink blue and charcoal hues.

Minimal design or texture and patterns?

We like to mix tonal textures mostly; wool blends or even one tone with several hues. The Unfolded brand encompasses a fairly minimal, simplistic style as opposed to patterned, so we find most of our projects adopt a calmer and quite tonal look and feel.

Do you have any tips for matching rugs with your existing space?

In most cases, complementing your existing palette is key and focusing on the largest piece/item in the room is the best way to start. For example, if you have a large charcoal sofa that feels quite heavy and is the focal point of the room, we’d suggest opting for a light, knit rug or a braided design to add texture and warmth under foot without being dark and heavy.
